Reflecting on the Elizabeth Line in honour of Her Majesty

Sep 20, 2022

The Elizabeth Line – the mammoth feat of engineering that took 23 years to build, honours the late Queen Elizabeth II (during a surprise visit to open the line at Paddington station, the Queen learned how to top up an Oyster Card!)

Stretching 60 miles east to west across the city, the Elizabeth Line dramatically improves London’s transports links and has been a haven for commuters since its launch in May 2022. In a mark of respect on the Queen’s funeral on September 19, TfL reduced ticket fares and announced an extra hour of service on the line as well as passengers partaking in a two-minute silence.

At Fordway we are proud to have supported Europe’s biggest construction project, delivering reliable, flexible cloud infrastructure solutions with onsite IT presence and 24×7 support for the round-the clock tunnelling operation.

Our job throughout the project was to provide the right technology at every stage, with excellent backup restore and data security. From day one in muddy tunnels to Queen Elizabeth II herself unveiling the impressive new railway – it has been quite the journey and the team at Fordway are pleased to have played a part in making the Crossrail project happen.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II.
