Pre-Sales Consultant

Fordway is looking for a Pre-Sales Consultant to provide pre-sales technical consultancy, advice and guidance to assist sales to current and prospective Fordway Customers. Provide Technical Account Management for Fordway’s Managed Services Customers. Assist with defining and planning technical strategy, vendor relationships and input into our future services.

Hours of work

7.5 per day, 37.5 per week


  • Gain an excellent, in-depth understanding of Fordway’s products and services to provide pre-sales technical support and assistance to Fordway’s sales team
  • Consult and create solution designs and proposals that meet customer requirements
  • Working with sales and marketing teams as a technical subject matter expert (SME), assisting in solution scoping and design for prospects and upsell to existing customers
  • Technical account management for Fordway’s Managed Services clients
  • Reviewing and recommending new technologies to improve Fordway services or customer environments
  • Consulting with new and existing customers to sell professional services such as capacity planning, security audits, performance optimisation, customer premise deployments and migrations
  • Creating comprehensive technical documentation within core competency areas, for internal and external use
  • Technical handover and transitioning of customer orders/work packages to Fordway’s Professional Services and Operations teams
  • Presentation of written or oral reports, including proposal creation, to internal and external stakeholders
  • Presentation of Fordway services to internal and external stakeholders, including prospective customers
  • Advising Fordway management team of any improvements or technical changes recommended to improve the performance, service resilience and cost effectiveness of Fordway services
  • Attendance at customer sites to assist sales or initial consultancy when required
  • Conformance to all policies and all procedures within the Fordway staff handbook and the Consultancy Team Manual



  • Professional qualification such as MCSE, CCNA plus degree (or equivalent)


  • PRINCE2 Foundation, ITIL v3 Foundation, TOGAF or other recognised systems architecture qualification



  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a pre or post sales technical consultancy role in a client facing commercial organisation
  • Pre-sales, solution architecture and technical understanding of the following:
    • Managed IT Services
    • Data centre hosting environments
    • Server and desktop virtualisation
    • Hyper-Converged infrastructure
    • Data storage, management and backup technologies
    • Data networking (LAN, WAN, WLAN)
    • Information security tools and technologies
    • Network, systems and security monitoring and management
    • MS Azure IaaS and PaaS environment design, configuration and billing
    • Core Microsoft products including Microsoft 365 E3/E5 suite
  • Highly motivated, confident and ambitious individual with a meticulous approach to work and attention to detail
  • Hands-on, pro-active approach to defining and addressing customer and prospect requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation and presentation skills
  • Experience in a commercial IT Solutions or Managed Services provider
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and busy environment


  • Expertise in
    • Design, configuration and billing for other public cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or similar
    • Unified communications technologies (notably Skype for Business)
    • Microsoft SQL, Exchange and Systems Centre products
    • Security best practice awareness and investigation
    • Software Defined Networking
    • Information Governance, Risk and Compliance
  • Awareness of commercial aspects to projects
  • Best practice awareness in security and investigation (including penetration testing methods)
  • Awareness and exposure to ISO, G-Cloud and PSN standards and requirements
