Team BFK is a joint venture formed between three of the world’s leading tunnelling, civil engineering and construction companies to deliver one of the three contracts awarded for the Crossrail project.
Bringing BAM Nuttall Ltd, Ferrovial Agroman and Kier Construction Ltd together required delivery of a common IT platform and configuration of all PCs and laptops for project staff and provide the comprehensive user support needed on-site. Each organisation had their own governance, compliance and IT procedures; they needed to work efficiently and collaborate but establishing common standards for integration was complex.
What did Team BFK do?
Partnering with Fordway as a third party a platform was developed to meet the specific project requirements independent of the IT operations of each individual organisation. Using Daas, Fordway also supplied all the hardware and software through a managed desktop which incorporated all the necessary applications including antivirus. In the event of a problem all systems could be restored quickly and efficiently. An onsite support team was provided to support the project IT support needs catering for on-site peaks and troughs.
For the members of the project team it was just like starting a new job. Everyone turning up on day one, all received a new computer and started with the same IT desktop: a new email address, new software and guidance from the Fordway team on how to use everything. They were also given Fordway’s introductory leaflet and a business card for the Fordway helpdesk.
Data growth and capacity planning became very easy. The project team has already grown and will continue to change as the BFK project develops.
Capacity is added as and when needed and then scaled back as the project draws to a close. Team BFK only pays for the capacity used and can tailor it to suit their needs.
Fordway very much go the extra mile for us – whatever we throw at them, they take it as a challenge and calmly find a solution. They see their role as being there to make the whole thing work.
