New Green Award for Fordway's customer - London Borough of Hillingdon

The London Borough of Hillingdon has won the “Environmental Project of the Year: Public Sector” award at the 2010 Green IT Awards for the new storage solution implemented by Fordway. The new solution cut server hardware by 97 per cent, reduced power consumption from 34kWh to 1.1 kWh and provided annual energy savings in excess of £25,000.

The Green IT Awards ceremony 2010 took place on Earth Day, Thursday the 22nd of April, the under the watchful eyes of the residents at London Zoo in Regents Park.  At the award ceremony Roger Bearpark, assistant head of ICT for the London Borough of Hillingdon, was presented with a bonsai tree in place of the more traditional award plaque.

This is one of many awards won for this innovative project, highlighting the impressive results this projected has achieved.  The project has also won the Green Solution of the Year’ award at the 2009 Channel Network Awards and was shortlisted for the ‘green IT’ category of the prestigious e-Government National Awards 2009

Hillingdon’s storage environment was architected, designed and deployed by Fordway Solutions who were also responsible for integrating the Compellent solution with the VMware infrastructure and delivering the vSphere enhancements to complete the current award winning setup. – demonstrating that ‘green’ solutions can also be good for business.
